AIR EMISSIONS AT TOAZ DOWN TO 56% OF PERMISSIBLE LEVEL

In 2017, the actual air emission factor for TOAZ was as low as 56% of the permissible level. This allows TOAZ to preserve the environment around its facilities, and makes a tangible contribution to improving the overall environmental situation in Togliatti and Samara Region.

The actual emission in 2017 totalled 4190 tonnes, against an allowed emission of 7430 tonnes. Moreover, as compared to 2016, the emission factor was reduced from 6600.tonnes by more than one-third, or by 36.7%. This significant result was largely achieved through the company’s well-balanced environmental policy and strategic upgrading programme.

“We are happy that our efforts to improve the environmental situation in the region have brought results. But we should not rest on our laurels. Our capacity upgrading programme is ongoing, which means pollutant emissions will continue to decrease. The health and well-being of the region’s residents are our priorities,” said Vyacheslav Suslov, CEO, CJSC Corporation Togliattiazot.

The company’s capacity upgrading programme to 2022 entails increasing the capacity of units in service, enhancing the operational reliability of equipment and building new facilities, while ensuring a reduction in technological environmental impact. All new facilities are designed using the latest environmental solutions. Consequently, the total emission from the new ammonia plant due for completion by 2020 will be as low as 0.27% of the company’s total emission. TOAZ is also constantly improving its wastewater treatment technology.

The overall investment in the upgrading programme exceeds RUB28 billion ($493 million).
